Yakup Zeyrek, born in 1959, works as an advertising photographer in Kornwestheim. Between 2014 and 2017, he photographed industrial wastelands and other spaces abandoned by society in connection with the political and economic reconstruction processes after 1989 in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia. With his photographs, however, he went beyond the usual, neo-Romantic lost-places photography. For he was not only concerned with the poetic decomposition of the spaces, but also sought out people who had worked in the places and who could tell stories from their own experiences.
